The Retooling Schooling Online Archive
An Information Resource for Journalists

From October 2007 through May 2008, the Innovations in Education Project produced a series of discussion programs called Retooling Schooling. The series, hosted by The Commonwealth Club of California at its San Francisco headquarters, brought together influential journalists, futurists, and nationally-recognized education experts for intimate conversations about the future of public education.

With David Sibbet of The Grove Consultants International acting as facilitator, guests ranging from Dr. Milton Goldberg, Distinguished Senior Fellow, Education Commission of the States and Dr. Monica Martinez, Vice President for Education Strategy, KnowledgeWorks Foundation to Randy Nelson, Dean, Pixar University and Laurene Powell Jobs Co-founder and President of the Board, College Track, discussed ways to radically reshape learning in a shifting global economy to help education increase its relevancy to the 21st century's needs and challenges.

The lively exchanges, which were geared specifically to journalists, explored new ideas in education reform, addressed rarely asked questions, and examined new approaches to learning in a knowledge-based society. Audio recordings are available for all the programs and full transcripts were also produced. In addition, unique visually-stunning, informational-rich "graphic notes" were created by Sibbet in real-time as he guided the conversations. Video is also available for most of the programs.

This archive is maintained to provide journalists and other interested stakeholders with easy, free access to the audio, video, transcripts, graphic notes, and an array of other valuable information sources related to the Retooling Schooling programs, education reform, and the future of public education in the United States.
